The benefits of remote working for businesses

Thanks to high-speed Internet and remote devices such as tablets and smartphones, an increasing number of individuals are now working remotely. While the benefits for employees have been well documented, there are numerous advantages that can be enjoyed by the businesses themselves.

Lower Operating Costs –

One of the most attractive mitigating variables, which has caused many employers to embrace remote operations, is the immutable fact that operating costs are dramatically lowered. Overhead expenditures such as electricity, phones and Internet can be outsourced within a single plan. Companies that are already within a stringent budget should therefore carefully consider this option.

Flexible Hours –

As the adoption of technology by companies of any size becomes more prevalent, employees have an increased scope to be contactable at any hour of the day. Flexible hours dictate that a larger demographic can be addressed and clients can be contacted when it is the most convenient for them. As a greater number of companies are now embracing the global power of the internet, such flexibility gives them an advantage over any potential competitors.

Less Geographical Restrictions –

This fits in with the last paragraph, but takes the idea a step further. Within point-of-sale and customer service sectors, the ability to travel while working is an enviable strategy to employ. Such mobility enables face-to-face meetings and other client-oriented operations to be more effectively carried out. This physical presence can make all of the difference in the world between a client who looks elsewhere and one that continues to remain loyal.

Employee Productivity –

It has been shown that remote working positions are directly associated with higher levels of productivity. While this may be associated with flexible hours, it is also true that there tend to be fewer distractions when working from home. As we have previously observed, a content employee is a happy employee. They will also be in a better position to take advantage of incentives and bonuses; such funds can be placed directly into their bank accounts as opposed to being allocated to travel costs and other daily expenditures. This obviously increases their levels of motivation.

A Better Selection of Employees –

A firm which espouses the notion of remote employment will not be limited to a candidate pool within a specific physical location. On the contrary, workers can be chosen from literally anywhere in the world. Thus, human resources are able to be much more discriminatory in regards to who is eventually hired. This will result in highly qualified workers and of course, an ability to satisfy the needs of the end client with greater efficiency.

Overall Satisfaction –

Research has shown on numerous occasions that those who work from home tend to have higher levels of job satisfaction. Why is this important from the perspective of the business? The simple fact of the matter is that a satisfied employee will be more productive and loyal. This automatically transfers to increased work efficiency and client retention. The same cannot always be said for an office-based environment.

Remote working is only now becoming a central tenet of many business sectors. As the online world continues to evolve, it is likely that these methods will only increase into the future. Any company looking to reduce its overhead while strengthening its workforce should always take such benefits into account.
